After only a year since the release of her sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet,” Sabrina Carpenter came out with one of the most replayable albums I have ever heard, “Man’s Best Friend,” on Aug. 29.
Starting with a controversy surrounding the cover for the album, which depicts Carpenter on her knees in a black mini dress while a faceless man grabs her hair, “Man’s Best Friend” was making plenty of noise even before it was released.
“Y’all need to get out more, I think,” Carpenter said in an interview with Rolling Stone about the album.
The main single from the album, “Manchild,” was released on June 5 and peaked at No. 1 on the United States Billboard Hot 100.
“Man’s Best Friend” was produced by Jack Antonoff, who worked with Carpenter on her previous album “Short n’ Sweet” as well as artists such as Taylor Swift, Lorde and Lana Del Rey.
On first listen, many people came to social media platforms such as TikTok to say that they did not particularly enjoy the album and found it uninteresting compared to her past work. This quickly shifted as many of the songs have now become trends on the app, and many people have changed their minds regarding the songs.
I listened to the album and immediately loved it, with my favorite tracks being “Go Go Juice” and “House Tour.”
After a few more listens, I have fallen even more in love with “Tears,” “Sugar Talking” and “Don’t Worry I’ll Make You Worry,” which many people have been comparing to the fan favorite from her previous album, “Don’t Smile.”
The album hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
“Man’s Best Friend” can be considered an album that is “not for everyone,” but to me, I think anyone could find a song from the album that they enjoy. There are so many fun beats, catchy lyrics and addictive melodies.
Although a pop album, there are also hints of a multitude of genres on the songs, including R&B, disco-pop and even some that feature a little country twang.
“Tears,” the second single from the album, made waves on social media as one of the craziest songs lyrically on the album. You can only imagine what it is about, but nonetheless, it is entirely addictive.
“Man’s Best Friend” is almost 40 minutes of tracks that have the ability to be replayed over and over again. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants something fun to listen to, especially if you have been wanting to give it a try.
If you have already listened once, I definitely think it is worth a re-listen because you are likely to find yourself a song you may not have liked at first, but do now.
