Books Becoming Movies This Summer

Personally speaking, I feel there’s always going to be a discussion about which is better the book or the movie. Personally, I am a movie buff! To be honest, I feel as though I spend the majority of my week during the summer watching movies. However, reading an interesting young adult novel gets me just as much satisfaction as going to the movies. So it is my duty to tell you the book to movie adaptations that are hitting theaters within these next couple months. Let’s dive in!

Starting off our list I have to talk about “After” the Harry Styles fanfiction story created on the social media writing tool Wattpad. Which by the way has, currently over 531 million reads according to Wattpad. This teenage romance was created by Anna Todd and is being released in theaters on April 12th, 2019. The book along with movie is centered around a young girl named Tessa Young. Who is becoming a freshman in college, but has an encounter with a mysterious young rebel named Hardin Scott (see what she did there.) Who makes her question life as she knows it. Which spoiler alert if you have not seen the trailer you definitely should because it reminds me of a younger more daring Fifty Shades of Grey if I’m being honest. You can bet your bottom dollar I will be seeing this movie when it comes out.

Next, on our list is the same writer and author who brought the movie of the summer back in 2017, in my personal opinion. Which is called Everything, Everything originally was a book that got turned into a movie. Nicola Yoon who is back this summer ready to release yet another young adult romance called “The Sun Is Also A Star.” The novel was published in 2016 as a young adult romance novel which is focused around two young adults in New York name Natasha and Daniel. Who has an encounter with each other, but before they fall in love, Natasha and her family have less than 24 hours before they are scheduled to depart from New York City to Jamaica. Daniel is the son of Korean immigrants. Will they fall in love or do they have to say goodbye forever? You’ll just have to find out on May 17, 2019.

To round off this list of book to movie adaptation list is the Netflix television series “The Umbrella Academy.” The Umbrella Academy is an American comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. Currently, there are 15 issues including 12 comics and three short stories. The comic books and television show is centered around superheroes and their dysfunctional siblings who reunite to solve a mystery of their father’s death along with an impending apocalypse. Which if this is something that you were interested in you can skip the movie theater line and watch it currently on Netflix.
