“The Life Of A Showgirl:” A look into Taylor Swift’s new era and aesthetic

Feathers. Diamonds. Theatrics. Fishnet Tights. Sequins. Vintage. Glamorous.

All of these describe the feeling, and the picture Taylor Swift has painted for us with “The Life of a Showgirl.” This new era is filled with happy, upbeat, pop music with every song being carefully written and pulled together into a look of her life during “The Eras Tour.”

After the immense success of “The Eras Tour” Taylor Swift has been undoubtedly the biggest artist in the world. After going to 21 countries and doing 149 shows, Taylor Swift wanted to give her fans a chance to see the glamorous, and not so glamorous inside workings.

Taylor’s previous four albums were slower, intense songwriting and synth-like production. Fans were anticipating this record because she called it a “180” from her recent work.

This album made a historical debut with over 4 million album unit sales, breaking Adele’s record from 2015. Taylor also achieved the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist, breaking a tie between Drake and Jay-Z.

She does not want the album to be all skipping and frolicking though, with her upbeat production she sings about Hamlet, Elizabeth Taylor and aging in the music industry. These serious topics are dusted with jewels and a headpiece to create “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Taylor tells us where she’s at in life right now through the album. She is feeling fulfilled professionally and in her personal life, in the song “Elizabeth Taylor” she tells us how she’s had love before and she’s had success before, but never the two at once. 

“The Fate of Ophelia” music video that premiered on YouTube on Oct. 5, is filled with intriguing visuals and different looks, encapsulating a fast-moving and glamorous lifestyle. 

Overall, Taylor Swift has written the perfect album for her current life status. She has given fans signed CDs, grand photoshoots and a big-budget music video because she’s as passionate as ever. Just a little over a week after the album’s release, she announced “Taylor Swift: The End of an Era:” a docuseries on her life during “The Eras Tour.” Fans have erupted in further excitement to have an inside look on Taylor’s life as a showgirl.
