I have dealt with oily skin for as long as I can remember. I am thankful that I never had to deal with serious acne, but it has been a constant battle trying new products and finding ones that I am obsessed with. When you have oily skin, it’s really easy for your pores to get clogged. This causes your skin to produce even more oil. Thanks to good ole Pinterest, I have found a routine and products that have saved me from looking like a grease ball.
As shown in the picture, the routine is an alternation between using a serum, mask, and exfoliator throughout the week before going to bed. It is easy to fall out of this routine, but I have found that it’s what works best for me.
On top of being on a good routine, the products you use are important. This is an area that you don’t want to go cheap on. You’re going to have this skin for the rest of your life, so treat it right and use the right products.
My two favorite products are ironically my newest ones. The first being a Clarisonic. I’ve been using one for about a month now and it has totally changed my skin care routine and how my skin looks on a day to day basis. I know they’re pricey, but they’re so worth the money.
The next product is the Murad Acne Control Clarifying Cleanser. I’ve been trying a lot of new cleansers for a while and never seemed to fall in love with one. Since I don’t struggle with acne, I never touched an acne cleanser. Although, I do struggle with blackheads and this cleanser has been heaven sent for my pores. This product does have salicylic acid so you want to make sure to moisturize well because it will dry you out.
For toner, I use the Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Mattifying Toner during the day to help keep my oil to a minimum. At night I alternate between Pixi Glow Tonic for acne and blackheads and PCA SKIN Nutrient Facial Toner for redness and to calm the skin. I’ve been using these products for a while, and I don’t plan on switching anytime soon.
For a serum, I use the Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum. It’s very moisturizing and calming. I use a variety of face masks, but my go to is the Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Face Mask. It’s so good. You see results after the first use which I love. To exfoliate I use the Bliss Micro Magic Skin-Renewing Microdermabrasion Scrub. It feels like sand and is very rough.
Lastly, to moisturize I use the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Balancing Moisturizer. It’s great under makeup and is for blemish-prone skin. At night time I use the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. Gel moisturizers are ideal for oily skin. I also try to use my Mario Badescu Chamomile Eye Cream 3-4 times a week because it’s never too early to use anti-aging products.
These products and this routine are what I have found make my skin look its absolute best. I hope there are some products that I mentioned that you might want to try or get your hands on. I highly recommend.
