The king has returned: KFC's Double Down is back

Ladies and gentlemen, the Double Down is back.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the KFC Double Down has returned when we needed it most.

I had no plans to write an additional blog this week, but when KFC announced the Double Down would be returning earlier this month, they forced my hand.

For those not in-the-know, the KFC Double Down is a sandwich consisting of bacon, cheese, pickles and mayo seated between two pieces of fried chicken breast.

The Double Down was a sandwich initially released as part of an April Fool’s joke. Public support then lead KFC to make it reality in 2010.

"After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we're embracing the chaos, bringing back our most iconic sandwich ever for just four weeks," said Nick Chavez, head of marketing for KFC, in a press release.

Four short weeks is all the time we have to get our hands on this artery-clogging sandwich, and I think that’s a smart choice.

Don’t give me this sandwich year-round. That is far too much power to have and far too dangerous for the public.

If you are concerned about the health ramifications of consuming this monstrosity, the thing does clock in at 950 calories. Although it is high in calories, it is also keto, making it sort of healthy I think, or at least healthy-adjacent.

I, however, will not be concerned with how this sandwich will inhibit my spring break abs. I am just happy to be present for a cultural phenomenon like the Double Down's return.

As of March 6, those brave enough can get their hands on KFC's infamous item. I will be ordering one and eating it in my car far away from judgement.
