The Harry Styles Effect: Notes on Fashion

Updated: May 26, 2020

“I noticed that there's a piece of you in how I dress, take it as a compliment.”

Besides being the new saving grace of pop music, heartthrob Harry Styles has become a fashion powerhouse. The former boyband member has blossomed into a man 2019 truly needed, one who represents the good in today’s world, one who treats people with kindness (insert wink here), and one who is impeccably well dressed in the process.

Styles has been turning heads since he burst onto the scene in 2010 with One Direction, but his fashion career only began to blossom with his solo career, after the band went on hiatus in 2016. At the time, Styles ditched his every day, guy-next-door, sprinkle of frat-boy look for a rock n roll persona that could rival the looks of Prince, David Bowie, or Mick Jagger.

As one of the new faces of Gucci, with two utterly successful solo albums under his wing, and as co-chair of the most recent Met Gala, Styles is on top of the world. His fashion and music make him the product of the perfect popstar formula. His gender fluidity and practicality defiant fashions are taking over the hearts of fans and critics alike.

He even croons in his lyrics about his own unusual clothing choices. Styles makes a case that high waisted white bellbottom pants can be worn by all, and who doesn’t love that?
