Sold out n’ Sweet: Sabrina Carpenter’s tour begins

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, I woke up with blistered feet, smudged eyeliner and no voice. I couldn’t be mad about any of those things though, because they were caused by Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet tour.

Carpenter’s sold-out tour opened on Monday, Sept. 23 in Columbus, Ohio. As someone who has been a fan of hers for 10 years, I was incredibly excited to be there on opening night. Tickets sold out almost immediately, but thankfully my friend Oryonne Maynard managed to snag two in the lower bowl.

The Short n’ Sweet Tour was my version of the Eras Tour. In the months leading up to the show, I made an insane amount of Pinterest boards all dedicated to my look on opening night. I'm sure I wasn’t alone in this excitement since every attendee was dressed up in the cutest outfits I’ve seen. Everywhere I turned I saw baby blue, light yellow and pink corsets. I felt like I was in a real-life fashion magazine.

If you know anything about Carpenter, you know her style. Bright blush, heart-shaped cut-outs in dresses and lingerie, and pale, light colors are all a part of her well-curated aesthetic.

One outfit that stood out to me was worn by fan Rayne Robb. She was wearing a white t-shirt and asking people to sign it. I thought this was such a cute way to have a memento of the night that not only celebrates Carpenter and her music but also the community of fans.

“Concert communities are a safe space for people. I feel like it's where we all come together. We all love the same thing. It's so fun, open and welcoming for literally anyone,” Robb said.

Being there on opening night meant that no one knew what to expect. I usually hate surprises, but going into this concert blindly was so thrilling.

As for the music itself, I love every single song on “Short n' Sweet” so I was never disappointed. It’s a near-perfect album to me. I also love so many of Carpenter’s older songs, and I wish she had more time to perform songs from her previous albums.

I was excited when she played every song on “Short n’ Sweet,” even at the expense of a full performance of the song “Decode” from her album “Emails I Can’t Send.” Ultimately, it didn’t matter to me what songs she sang.

The show itself was so incredible. Everyone was so excited; it was almost impossible not to smile the whole time.

My friend Maynard said, “It is just such a fun atmosphere! Everywhere you look there are a bunch of girls having fun and laughing with their friends while dressed up in their sparkly pink dresses and highest heels!”

Maynard’s description was a perfect way to describe the environment at the show.

When the show started, I was blown away by the set and production. The stage was set up like a house. It had a bedroom, bathroom, round staircase and a lounge area shaped like a heart.

The show was meant to seem like Carpenter was the star of an 80s sitcom. It was filled with pre-recorded videos that reminded me of shows like “Full House” and “Growing Pains.”

On top of this already creative production, there was an outfit change nearly every four songs. Every time Carpenter came out in a new outfit, my jaw dropped.

She opened the show in a sparkly pink corset that was reflecting light all over the stadium. My favorite look of the night was a black lace bodysuit she wore during my favorite song of hers, “Coincidence.”

I am still absolutely amazed by that night weeks after the fact. Everything about the concert exceeded my already high expectations. I cannot recommend this show enough if you can get tickets; this was one of the most exciting, bonding and magical experiences I have ever had.
