As it is every year, everyone was on the edge of their seat waiting to see the sneak peaks of Paris Fashion Week.
It seemed as of late, fashion was becoming less innovative and more reliant on trends and shock value. I feel as if Paris Fashion Week SS23 has stirred up the love we once all had for fashion.
Starting with the look that has deemed Bella Hadid the "supermodel of our decade” by the internet, the piece worn by Hadid was designed by Coperni and seemed to be inspired by a similar "spray-paint" dress from Alexander McQueen’s 1999 spring/summer collection. The McQueen dress was iconic and extremely ahead of fashion and technology of the time. The Coperni show ended with two men spraying Hadid, who was in just underwear, with a white “fabric." A woman then approached Hadid and fixes the dress to be a chic white, off-the-shoulder dress. Hadid then stepped off the platform and elegantly walked around the room. It was definitely the most stunning and indelible show of this year's Paris Fashion Week.
Paris Fashion Week SS23 has really reminded me why I am so passionate about the world of fashion, not only because of the innovation displayed in Coperni’s show but also because of the stunning collection by Victoria Beckham, who is known for her elegant and smart style. She made her debut with her 2023 collection, which was filled with stunning silk fabrics, sleek suits and unique pieces. Beckham ended her show tearful, hugging her husband. I think this is only the beginning of Beckham’s takeover of the fashion industry. Her collection was definitely one of my favorites this year.
Brands such as Miu Miu, Vivienne Westwood and Loewe were turning heads with their pieces. While Miu Miu is becoming known for its chic ballet flats and sleek outlines, it also debuted the “thin” headband, which is soon to take the world by storm, no doubt. Vivienne Westwood wowed with wet hairstyles and its signature, large pearl necklaces—those beaded necklaces already claiming their stake in recent trends in Harry Styles' current looks. And finally, Loewe, which is a brand paving its way in fashion and a new favorite of mine. Influencer and YouTube mogul Emma Chamberlain was seen wearing innovative cracked-egg shoes at Loewe’s Paris Fashion Week show.
Overall, Paris Fashion Week SS23 was without a doubt my personal favorite. Each show was so effortless and simple yet high-impact. The looks ranged from fresh-faced skin to smokey eyes and displayed incredible amounts of diversity. We will most likely be looking back at this year's shows and using them as an outline for the future. I think Paris Fashion Week SS23 will breathe new life into the world of fashion and stir so much creativity in designers and artists.
