A holiday clothing gift guide

The holiday season is stressful for everybody. Finals, cold weather and wondering what to get your loved ones as gifts. Personally, and I’m aware how “first-world problem” this sounds, I always struggle on what to ask for. Throughout the year, there are a thousand things I see that I want and cannot afford, however when December rolls around, I forget everything I’ve ever wanted.

This year, however, I’ve compiled a list of things I want for the holidays throughout the course of the past few months. I have also noted what others are asking for and want. Personally, seeing what other people want often inspires my own wishlist, I hope to do that for you!

My primary focus this year is clothes because I’ve been wearing the same four outfits in rotation since August and probably also in high school. Shoes, jackets and accessories, you name it and I want it.

Jackets

From a girl who has had the same singular winter coat since she was a freshman in high school, it might be time for a new one. Luckily, there are so many fashionable options this year rather than my plain black North Face (which I adore).

  1. Carhartt jacket

A Carhartt jacket of any kind has been on my wishlist for years. The reason I haven’t gotten one is because it is on the pricier side and the cutest versions of the jackets are typically vintage and sold on Depop or eBay. After being scammed on both sites, I’m weary when it comes to buying, however sometimes the risk is worth it. Carhartt jackets are built to last, my grandfather had his for decades! They’re also undeniably cute if you style them correctly. I’ve seen the majority of the jackets range from $100  to $150.

  1. Leather jackets

I’ve been wanting a nice leather jacket to compliment my outfits for a long time. Not only will they keep you warm, but also looking stylish. What I love about leather jackets is that they don’t spoil a cute outfit like some winter coats do, but they amplify it! You can find a leather jacket on almost every clothing website. Amazon, Shein, Hollister and H&M, all have great options that can even be affordable. Go get yourself a nice leather jacket.

  1. Jean jacket

Jean jackets are so back! I haven’t owned a jean jacket since I was at least 8 years old, but I’m ready to re-enter that phase. Some may think it’s tacky but I crave a denim on denim outfit this winter. The best place to get a jean jacket is definitely Levi’s, however, it is simultaneously the best place to go bankrupt. As a broke college student, sometimes we have to stick to Amazon and Shein. A nice oversized jean jacket with sherpa lining is a must-add to the winter wardrobe.

Shoes

The sheer amount of shoes I’ve ruined since being on campus, whether that is due to frats, walking long distances or overwearing, is devastating. I desperately need new shoes for all occasions.

  1. Boots

As we all know, shoes can make or break a look, and boots definitely make one. They can make any outfit look considerably more professional, fashionable and adorable. I’ve always been cautious about what boots to get because my calves are often too big for the boot to zip the whole way. However, I recently found a cute fall pair available on TikTok Shop and Amazon that has an elastic band to allow for stretching. The boots aren’t just cute but they are practical.

  1. Adidas Gazelles

Adidas has really stepped up their shoe game, but specifically with their Gazelles. The color options, comfortability and extra few inches in height they provide all draw me in. They are typically around $100, however during Black Friday, Adidas typically has good deals. Gazelles are so stylish and cool that every time I see someone wearing them I think to myself: “Wow they must be cool.” I want that! I cannot wait to style them.

  1. Birkenstock Boston Clogs

At first glance, I actually disliked the Birkenstock clogs, however after seeing how they are being styled, I got inspired. They’re on my list because the shoe is unique. I’ve never seen anything like it and it’s by far my favorite kind of Birkenstock. When styled correctly, the shoe can make the entire outfit better.

Accessories

Everybody knows the key to a good outfit is an accessory. I love the accessories I have, but a lot of the jewelry is cheap, it tarnishes, or I lose all of them.

  1. Baseball caps

I have never in my life worn a baseball cap successfully and one of my New Year’s resolutions is to do just that! Baseball team caps, solid color hats, etc, are all fashionable and a need for this year. I don’t like baseball but I love the hats!

  1. Chunky jewelry

Chunky jewelry is so back and I’m all for it. My holiday wishlist is flooded with big bracelets, chunky necklaces and big earrings. I currently own a lot of tame jewelry which I love, but I want to add more personality in my accessories and big, borderline gaudy additions to my closet is the perfect opportunity for that.

  1. Belts

I’ve been so against belts my entire life because I saw them as unfashionable. However, recently I noticed they really add character to an outfit. Solid brown and black belts with gold buckles are top on my wishlist. They are also — luckily — relatively cheap on websites like Shein and Amazon.

During the holiday season it’s hard to know what to ask for, but hopefully these ideas help guide your wishlist!
