Outdoor Adventures in Lexington

Shorts weather and natural tans are slowly integrating back into our lives and personally, I could not be more excited. Lexington is beautiful all year long, but spring has to be my favorite for sure. It's that pre-summer sensation that resonates with most students. The clear blue skies, the flowers blooming, the endless outdoor activities! How could you not love it?

The last two weeks have had a bit of bipolar weather here and there, but my weather app is saying that winter is over. My roommate even said my freckles are making a comeback. I have been soaking up as much sun as possible and here are a few things I have been up to and eagerly looking forward to continuing throughout the semester and the summer!

Take a Trip to the Arboretum

One of my favorite things to go do when it is nice out is go to The Arboretum State Botanical Garden of Kentucky and just walk around! I walk from my sorority house to the garden, which is a little less than a mile away, and love the time for myself. The trails are always packed with adorable dogs and gorgeous flowers. The Arboretum offers more than just walking trails but a perfect spot for picnics, photoshoots and even tailgating! I always look forward to spending my time there on sunny days!

Go to a UK Baseball Game

As a sports fan, spring holds a special place in my heart thanks to UK Baseball. There is nothing quite like watching ball games with my best friends! Some of my best memories from last spring were at the baseball games with my friends. And of course, no visit is complete without enjoying a hot dog! The energy at the baseball games is so exciting, plus I usually get to rock my favorite Kentucky blue tennis skirt! For those eager to join in on the action, I recommend checking out the baseball schedule for upcoming games.

Here is the link to the schedule! Go support the cats and maybe you will see me there!

Take a Drive

Driving is practically my happy place! I mean who needs an Uber when you have me as a friend? My aux is typically pretty great too. Windows down, sunglasses on and the music full blast, how could you not love it? Going back and forth from Kentucky to Georgia when I go home is when I put on my best concerts. I know you wish you had passenger princess privileges for that show. With summer coming up, I will get my fill for sure. While I drive with the windows down year-round, weather-dependent, in the spring it definitely hits differently. Driving to the horse farms and the scenic routes is perfect in my opinion. Next time you are bored, buckle up and get behind the wheel on a beautiful day in Lexington; it's unforgettable!

Eat Outside

Looking for a scrumptious meal with a side of sunshine? Finding cute outside seating is not difficult in Lexington. There are so many fun options but here are my favorites! First, check out The Bear & The Butcher! They have lovely outside seating overlooking the Chevy Chase area not to mention fantastic food! For brunch, I love the Bluegrass Breakfast! It comes with my all-time favorite, biscuits & gravy, as well as eggs, sausage and potatoes. And for lunch and dinner? Well, let's just say that the fried chicken sandwich is a game-changer. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside – it's nothing short of perfection! I mean, wow, it is making me hungry right now! I have never had a bad experience and every time I have visitors in Lexington, that is my first stop. So, if you decide to treat yourself on a nice day, sit outside and enjoy some delicious food! You won’t regret it!

Shop Outside

If you're a shopaholic who prefers soaking up the sun while browsing, then The Summit at Fritz Farm is your ultimate destination! The Summit has some of my favorite places to shop and dine. From LuluLemon to Pottery Barn, I have to exercise serious self-control every time I set foot here. I will spend way too much if I'm not careful. Shopaholics like me do get hungry from time to time which is why The Summit is great when it comes to restaurants too; Condado's Tacos has some of the best tacos I've ever had. The Summit has something for everyone! It was one of the first places I went to when I came to UK. It is such a cool area that I spent some of my birthday this past January in the area! So, if you're looking for a unique and vibrant outdoor shopping and dining destination, look no further than The Summit at Fritz Farm.

Take Some Outdoor Photos

If you know me, you know I never turn down a photoshoot, especially when the weather is nice. If you ask my friends, they'll tell you that my favorite element in photos is the sky. There's just something about a clear blue backdrop that instantly elevates the whole picture in my opinion. This past weekend, some of my sorority sisters and I did a photoshoot in downtown Lexington. The weather was perfect and it was the highlight of my weekend to strike a pose with my friends. Call me basic, but I was absolutely thrilled to wear a nice dress and have a new Instagram post. In the city of Lexington, there are tons of picture-perfect spots to explore.

One of the reasons I came to UK was because of how beautiful the campus and the city are. I can’t wait for the many adventures that lie ahead for the rest of the spring semester. From Keeneland to outdoor strolls, this city has endless opportunities to have a blast. I am hoping to even try pickleball for the first time on a pretty day coming soon! So, as you embark on your own Lexington adventures, don't forget to pause and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you.

Here's to hoping for an abundance of sunny days ahead and countless opportunities to make memories that will last a lifetime!
