Fall is a bookworm's favorite time of the year. Peak reading time for me is when the weather is gloomy, the leaves are falling, I have a pumpkin chai and a good book in hand. The season and the chilly weather create the coziest reading environment that's guaranteed to get me out of a reading slump. In the spirit of the season, here are my absolute favorite books for fall.
“The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides is a book I can’t stop thinking about, even a year after reading it. If you are into eerie, psychological thrillers, this one is for you.
It follows Theo Faber, the main character and a criminal psychologist, as he finally gets his hands on a case he has been following for quite some time. The case of Alicia Berenson, who lives a grand life on the outside until one day her husband comes home from work and she randomly shoots him five times in the face.
Following the tragic death of her husband, Berenson refuses to speak. She becomes a mystery to the public, and Faber is determined to get her to speak to find out why she brutally murdered her husband.
This book is chilling and perfect for the fall months. There’s a plot twist at the end that I genuinely did not see coming. If you love to read mysterious and thrilling books in the fall, this one's a great choice.
Sticking with the eerie theme, my next book is “Verity” by Colleen Hoover.
I'm not a huge fan of Colleen Hoover; however, I loved everything about this book, even when it made me mad.
It follows the main character Lowen as she accepts the job offer of a lifetime when famous author Verity Crawford becomes injured and is unable to finish her book series. Her husband Jeromy hires Lowen to finish it for her. She finds an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read, and things get really weird, really fast.
I read this entire book in one day. It's very fast-paced and will hook you straight from the beginning. It is full of plot twists and is sure to have you wondering who the real bad guy is in the story. It is perfect for a cozy fall night.
The book series “A Court of Thorns and Roses” is the type you’d want on a rainy evening in the fall. I can’t think of a better series- besides maybe Harry Potter- to keep you bundled up on the couch all evening long. This book will teleport you to the cold, dark fantasy world of Prythian.
The first book follows the main character Fayre, a 19-year-old huntress. One night she kills a large wolf in the woods and her life is forever changed. She is kidnapped and forced to live in a mythical land where she discovers her captor is a faerie.
This book is hard to describe without giving too much away, but just think of a modern, mature “Beauty and the Beast.” That is really all you need to know. The second book in this series is my favorite book of all time. Although each book is well over 500 pages, it didn’t take me longer than one day to read any of them.
If you love to read like me, these three books need to be included in your fall to be read. Even though they are all vastly different, they all guarantee the perfect fall evening.
