Audrey Hobert: pop music's newest it girl

If you are a die-hard Gracie Abrams fan like me, you may know her from co-writing with Abrams or simply being one of her best friends, but Audrey Hobert is slowly becoming the newest it girl in pop music. With her quirky, fun beats and incredibly relatable lyrics, Hobert shook up the music scene with her Aug. 15 album release, titled “Who’s The Clown?”

Starting with her debut single, “Sue Me,” which was released May 9, Hobert has finally shown the world her voice and vision through her own work. Hobert has co-written with Gracie Abrams, specifically on her newest album “The Secret Of Us,” where she has credits on hits such as “I Love You, I’m Sorry” and “That’s So True,” but before May, she had yet to release music of her own.

“Sue Me” peaked at No. 26 on Billboard Magazine’s weekly Top 40, which was incredibly impressive for a debut single from someone who was almost completely unknown beforehand. Hobert found her “OG” fans through Abrams’ fandom, but has since grown to over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 31 million streams on “Sue Me.”

Her debut album, “Who’s The Clown?”, included singles such as “Wet Hair” and “Bowling Alley,” which has already become a trend on TikTok.

Another standout, titled “Thirst Trap,” is absolutely my favorite on the album. It was released with a music video on the day the album came out and instantly caught my attention. It perfectly encapsulates the teenage girl experience, just as many other songs on the album do. The instrumentals at the end get me up out of my seat every single time I listen.

Many people on social media have grown to love Hobert and her music, classifying her as cool and weird at the same time. She is eccentric and unlike anything we are seeing in pop music today, making her remarkably likable and easy to connect to. Hobert’s album is full of upbeat tunes that also portray her insecurities, life experiences and dreams.

“Phoebe,” one of the fan favorites from the album, was inspired by the popular sitcom “Friends” and is a track that is almost guaranteed to make you emotional. Hobert goes into accepting her insecurities and expressing who she is as a person.

Another personal favorite of mine is “Silver Jubilee,” an addictive track where Hobert sings about embracing life and having fun, knowing that it won’t last forever.

Hobert recently announced her “The Staircase to Stardom” tour, where she will be performing from California all the way to Ireland. Many fans have come to TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) discussing the presale experience and how quickly her shows sold out. Despite this, there are still resale tickets available for most of her shows if you are interested.

Even Hobert’s website is a whirlwind of entertainment. You can buy her album on vinyl or CD, find information about her tour, and see the making of her album in the archive section of the site. The archive includes designs and GIFs inspired by the album and, most importantly, videos of her planning songs and beats from the album during the process.

“Who’s The Clown?” is the perfect album to play in any situation, whether you are having a fun night out or are rotting in bed with only yourself as company. It has been on repeat for me since it came out, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves music.
