A Christmas Classics Playlist with a Twist

Fa la la la la the holidays are hereeee! As is the music that immediately hits the radio starting November 1st. Sometimes the holiday playlists can get quite repetitive with the same Christmas classics; however, it’s impossible to ditch those signature songs. I have curated a list of some of those classics but recorded by new, popular artists. Check out these ten to potentially add to your playlist!
"Let It Snow" by Kacey Musgraves (feat. The Quebe Sisters) Kacey Musgraves’ album, A Very Kacey Christmas, is full of old and new heartwarming songs to sing-along to! "Let It Snow" is the perfect upbeat tune to sing to. The collaboration with the Quebe Sisters is a perfect balance of the original melody and Kacey’s fun, western sound!
"It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" by Michael Buble The KING of Christmas music had to be added to this playlist. He truly was the first artist I thought of when creating this playlist since he is such an amazing singer and his voice truly makes me think of the holidays. I’ve always thought of this song as his signature Christmas song. Let’s just say I’m thankful for him and his updated covers.
"The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire)" by John Legend When this album was released last holiday season, I was over the moon! A John Legend Christmas album was just what we all needed. His soothing, soulful voice just fills the room. This song and his amazing voice create the perfect Christmas morning scene: gathered by the fire, opening gifts, and drinking hot chocolate with your family. (WOW I can’t wait!)
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by John Legend (feat. Esperanza Spalding) Again, John Legend’s rendition of this classic was much needed for this playlist. His collaboration with Esperanza Spalding made this song into a much more soulful and jazzy sound! It’s a must-have on the playlist if you haven’t added it already.
"Baby, It’s Cold Outside" by the Glee Cast This duet has been one of my favorites since it premiered on the show back in 2010. Darren Criss and Chris Colfer do an amazing job of creating the playful back and forth conversation and their voices blend perfectly! Plus, the scene from “Glee” is too sweet to miss.
"White Christmas" by Lea Michele (feat. Darren Criss) Another favorite from a “Glee” star; however, this is from Lea Michele’s recent Christmas album, Christmas in the City. Her collaboration with Darren Criss is a beautiful melody to play during your festive celebrations this holiday season.
"O Holy Night" by Lea Michele This song was truly an addition based on appreciation for Lea Michele. This has to be one of the most magical, beautiful, and powerful covers of "O Holy Night." Her voice is something I am completely amazed by. This was an easy addition to the playlist.
"Santa Claus is Coming to Town" by Michael Buble This song I knew I wanted to have on the playlist, but I wasn’t sure which artist I wanted it to be sung by. Michael Buble was my pick for his playful sound, jazzy tune, and of course, his voice. I really didn’t have much more of a reason than wanting more Michael Buble on the playlist.
"Sleigh Ride" by Brett Eldredge When Brett Eldredge’s album, Glow, came out I was very excited to search for those Christmas classics covered. I love his country music, so I knew that his Christmas music would be just as good, or even better. "Sleigh Ride" is a classic, playful song and I think his rendition was a great addition to the playlist!
"A Holly Jolly Christmas" by Brett Eldredge I thought that this song was the perfect closing addition to the playlist for its jazzy, fun, and upbeat tune. I love this song and what Brett Eldredge did to make it his own!
Hopefully, you found a few new songs to add to your playlists to switch it up at your holiday celebrations this week! Enjoy!
Happy Holidays, KRNL Readers!
