Grab your friends and head out to the races… the horse races, that is.
A must-do in Lexington and a staple attraction for the city, Keeneland is home to horse racing, classy outfits, and plenty of photo opportunities. Whether you truly have a knack for betting on horses or not, it’s always fun to be surrounded by the sights, sounds, and sometimes even smells, of the horse industry that is so rich to Kentucky’s culture.
The Keeneland racetrack has two designated seasons that host talented and skilled Thoroughbreds from far and wide to entertain us, horse-loving folks.
Admission is only $5, making it affordable for those on a college budget (something I very much appreciate!) Drinks and food are available for purchase, but if you’re not looking to spend much money, I guarantee that with a group of your closest friends you can share lots of laughs and cheers throughout the day.
It’s quite easy to make the most out of a Keeneland experience with your Lexington community, especially on College Scholarship Day, hosted one Friday each season. For us college students with a student I.D., this day offers free admission into the track, free food and giveaways, and a chance to win big bucks for scholarships and other prizes.
Keeneland is also a great place to seek out internships with, as someone interested in business, equine science, or other related fields. Other educational opportunities include taking a behind-the-scenes tour of Keeneland's facilities.
While the Fall meet is over for the season, save the date for horse racing to come back in the Spring. Keeneland's 2020 Spring Race Meet opens Thursday, April 2, and continues through Friday, April 24.
Be sure to pick out the perfect spring outfit and bring your luck for betting. See you at the races, y’all!
