Kanye West and Julia Fox have been all over social media lately, shocking the world with their new relationship. Almost a year after his divorce from Kim Kardashian, West moved on with Fox very publicly. Although she has gained a significant amount of recent attention, Fox's fame is very minimally credited to West.
Fox had a quite chaotic upbringing. She was born in Milan, Italy, and moved to New York City at the age of 6 with her father. By the age of 13, she was stealing clothes from department stores and clubbing with her friends. At 15, she ran away from home with her boyfriend, which became short-lived as he was eventually arrested for dealing drugs. Fox was in a crunch for money and turned to the "adult gigs" section on Craigslist, leading to her career as a dominatrix.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Fox said, “I started to realize I have these assets, I was getting this attention… so immediately I rewired my thinking and was like, 'This is how I am going to get what I want in life.'”
In 2014, Fox focused all of her energy on creating a clothing line. She launched a very successful knitwear line called Frazika Fox. Fox gained a significant amount of popularity from her line as it was dedicated to encouraging the viewer to see the female form anew.
"... Looking into the urban landscape and translating contemporary NYC structures into the type of sensually minimalist, body-con pieces that make women feel strong, invincible and undeniably sexy,” Fox said about her clothing line in an interview with Elle.
From fashion designer to artist, in 2017, Fox produced a series of art pieces, each of them drawn out using her own blood on silk. The exhibit was called “R.I.P. Julia Fox,” as it reflected a near-death experience she endured when she was only 17 by drug overdose. According to HuffPost, she extracted the blood with a syringe and used the syringe itself to paint on the silk; she wished to be as authentic as possible.
As if Fox couldn’t get any more interesting, she proceeded to publish two books of photography and directed a film about child sex trafficking. Aside from her other career paths, her most recognized role was in the American crime thriller "Uncut Gems." With little to no acting experience and pure will, Fox became an actress.
Due to her recent, very public relationship with West, Fox has become known solely as "West’s girlfriend." She recently said on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast that she wants people to know she wasn’t some random nobody before meeting Kanye. Fox is only 31-years old and stands out for her multiple talents in both the art and fashion world. The actress, artist, author, fashion designer, and much more simply can’t be narrowed down to just “Kanye West’s girlfriend”.
