All of you KRNL readers out there know that our biannual magazine would be nothing without the written content that tells the stories of our community; that's why it's so important that we have a strong and persistent editor working behind the scenes to make sure that all of our stories end up being interesting, educational and a good representation of the KRNL brand and the messages that we try to promote. Over the years, we've had incredibly talented lifestyle editors take on this challenge and have seen them produce incredible work, and our newest editor is sure to be no different. For our second "Behind KRNL" post, meet Anna Byerley: KRNL's next lifestyle editor!
Hi, my name is Anna Byerley! I'm from Louisville, Kentucky. I will be a senior this upcoming fall, majoring in journalism with a minor in business, and I am now the lifestyle editor for KRNL!
How did you first get involved with KRNL?
I first got involved with KRNL after I came across their Instagram account my sophomore year at UK. I thought it was such a cool student organization, and my dream job is working for a lifestyle and fashion magazine, so it was love at first sight.
What's your favorite part about getting involved with KRNL?
My favorite part about working with KRNL is that we truly have some of the most talented students at UK working on our staff and we all truly love our roles and KRNL so much. It's just cool to be a part of a group of people that are all passionate about the same thing.
Do you have a favorite memory during your time with KRNL that stands out to you?
Last year when we all got sent home due to COVID-19, we did a lookbook shoot called "Dreaming in Denim" in Louisville - following CDC guidelines of course - and it was the first time any of us had really been around other people other than our families. It was so much fun, and the pictures were amazing.
What other interests/hobbies do you have outside of KRNL?
In my free time, I like to hang with friends, go to workout classes, and I've recently been re-watching the show "Sex and the City" (again).
What is your favorite place you've ever traveled to?
I think my favorite place I've ever traveled to has to be Oregon. It's the perfect balance of cities, mountains and beaches. And I feel like no one really goes there so I wanted to give them a little shout-out.
Who are some of your fashion/lifestyle inspirations? In other words, who do you look up to?
For fashion inspiration, Pinterest is definitely my go-to. I have a board called "dream closet;" the name speaks for itself haha, but I spend way too much time saving pins to that board. I also get a lot of fashion inspiration from random people on TikTok, and a few people I follow on Instagram, like @tezza, @sammmyrobinson, @indyblue_ & @maryralph.
What are you looking forward to this year regarding KRNL as our newest lifestyle editor?
I'm super excited to be the lifestyle editor this year for KRNL! We have a lot of cool ideas for stories and I'm excited to start working with my new team. I really want to start getting more involved in the Lexington community around us, as well as growing with the community here at UK. There are so many cool people and things in Lexington that we haven't used before in our past issues, so I'm excited for what's to come!
