A guide to Galentine's Day

It’s February, so you know what that means! Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Now, this can be a day you either love or hate, depending on your relationship status. But, for all the ladies out there, there is something even better: Galentine’s Day. This is a holiday celebrated on Feb. 13, where women come together to celebrate their friendships and shared interests.

Here are a few ideas for celebrating Galentine's Day:

Brunch or lunch

Plan a special brunch or lunch with your gal pals at a local restaurant or cook up something special in the comfort of your own home. Don’t forget the mimosas!

Spa day

Treat yourselves to a spa day, either DIY at home, or go book a massage at a local spa. Spa day can include a lot of things, so get creative with it!

Wine or cocktail night

Invite your friends over for a fun night of wine or cocktail tasting. You can even try making your own signature drinks. Try placing notecards in a hat with different colors on all of them, and have each friend draw a card and make cocktails that are that color!

Movie marathon

Choose a theme for the night, such as “rom-coms,” grab your favorite candy and popcorn and enjoy a relaxing movie marathon with your friends.

DIY crafts

Get your DIY on with your friends and make crafts like homemade candles, jewelry or vision boards! Etsy has lots of starter kits for DIYs if you need extra help.

Game night

Host a game night with your friends and play your favorite board games, do trivia or even make up your own game. Game nights can be another great DIY activity to do with your friends.

Volunteer together

Give back to your community by volunteering together at a local charity organization. Consider making some cute Valentine’s day cards and giving them to the homeless shelter!

Outdoor activities

Since it is still winter in Lexington, some fun outdoor activities could include a bonfire, ice skating, or sledding—depending on what Kentucky decides to do with its weather that day.

Board Night

Each friend picks a category of what kind of food board they want to bring to the hangout. For example, a charcuterie board is a classic, but you can get creative by making a dip board, a chip board, a breakfast board and more!

Whatever activity you choose, the most important thing is to celebrate and spend quality time with your friends!
